Steve Wyshywaniuk is co-creator and product director of StoryMaker, an open source app that enables anyone to create a great story with their mobile phone. Steve taught a workshop on telling stories well for activists at the Oslo Freedom Forum.
How is your work relevant to human rights?
I find that story is what gets people to actually do something, to respond to a call to action. Information is important, but if you can also tell a compelling story, you can get people to move. Potential storytellers often feel disempowered by complicated technology or the process of creating a boiled-down version of their experience.
