A Conversation with Steve Wyshywaniuk, Product Director for StoryMaker
Steve Wyshywaniuk is co-creator and product director of StoryMaker, an open source app that enables anyone to create a great story with their mobile phone. Steve taught a workshop on telling stories well for activists at the Oslo Freedom Forum.
How is your work relevant to human rights?
I find that story is what gets people to actually do something, to respond to a call to action. Information is important, but if you can also tell a compelling story, you can get people to move. Potential storytellers often feel disempowered by complicated technology or the process of creating a boiled-down version of their experience. But there is a basic craft for storytelling, and it is something that anybody can pick up. The spirit and ambition of what we’re doing with StoryMaker is to make storytelling as unscary as possible.
Huzzah, an interview I did was posted this weekend.
