Many think of Reed College as Portland’s “atheist/communist” school that churns out geniuses like Gary Snyder and Steve Jobs, or maybe they’ve heard some rumor of the campus’s lax drug policies. The truth about what goes on at Reed is much more complex and transcends explanation. To truly know the place, you have to be a student there–and one might argue that the most defining experience of a Reed student is their participation in the annual grad bash Renn Fayre, during which the campus closes its doors to the public. Allowing for a rare glimpse of exactly what does goes on behind the red tape of Reed’s exclusive festival, last year’s Renn Czars allowed Into the Woods the unique opportunity to document the event.

In recent years, the fest has culminated with a performance by an unannounced artist in the Student Union. This year, the student board surprised their peers with Trippple Nippples–a trio of Japanese girls and a couple Australian dudes with a proclivity for shoving strawberries down each other’s throats and performing in full body paint.
