December 9 was the birthday of Russian political philosopher, Peter Kropotkin (1842 – 1921) – the “Anarchist Prince”, whose ideas of Mutual Aid outline an alternative to Darwinian ideas of cutthroat competition as the driving force behind evolution.
In the 1870s and 80s Kropotkin was a traveling revolutionary, moving through Europe organizing and agitating for socialist causes. He settled in England, and only returned to Russia after the Revolution…
